ESSIA JAIBI

DO IT AGAIN

DO IT AGAIN was initially a performance proposed for co-production at the second edition of Carthage Dance. The idea was to reflect on theater, but this performance has continually evolved.
Two actors and one actress are locked, trapped in a theater, condemned to endlessly rehearse for a play that never starts… a game of lies and truths about oneself, the profession, and theater, driven by introspection and questioning… why theater? What kind of theater and for whom?
Sometimes, the visual aspect takes precedence, sometimes it’s the physical work, and sometimes it’s the text. The plot of the play is built around these elements.
The voice-over, itself the fourth protagonist, gathers everything and reframes the whole.

“A performance that strips our current theatrical reality of its skin and its explosive masks, yearning to reopen the artistic wound so that the pus, which instills in us the urge to vomit, can be expelled. A performance that solely belongs to the ferocity of our theatrical existence, declaring the dark grievances and the desire to ignite fires in everything and against everything.”

Hatem Tlili – independent theater critic

“The performance was smooth with flexible and present bodies in all situations of various kinds. […] As for the direction, it skillfully grasped the aesthetics of the show with a clear directorial vision and coherence in its elements, offering a unique sensitivity in the theatrical scene that combines irony and seriousness […] in a different aesthetic path, heralding the birth of a director with a distinctive style.”

Anouar Chaafi – Al Charaa Al Magharibi

“Indeed, Essia Jaïbi is a prolific artist, constantly reinventing and renewing herself with each new project. […] The rhythm, the tone, the energy flow. And we repeat endlessly as long as the confinement persists. A willing confinement in the profession they have chosen to pursue. […] Each actor lays bare their relationship with the theater, the suffering, the passion, the attachment, the well-being, the self-discovery…”
