THE MINISTRY OF ANGRY ARTISTS

Are you wondering who we are?
We are first and foremost Tunisian citizens
who question the reality in which we live,
and the current state of our country.
We are young, ambitious and angry.
We have chosen art as our vocation and our profession. And all we want is to practice it with respect and dignity.
Our movement is political
Societal
Aesthetic
And anonymous.
Because we are aware of the workings of the system,
we refuse to be taken over by the media, institutions
and by the clanism that has consumed the cultural scene for decades.
Through our actions and positions, we denounce :
The non-existent cultural policy of successive governments.
The place and image of artists in our society.
The financial and material precariousness in which the vast majority of artists find themselves.
The corruption that eats away at the small budget allocated to culture.
The media’s complicity in the general dumbing-down and erasure of art in popular culture.
Patriarchal, reactionary and traditionalist management of cultural institutions.
The absence of a concrete, effective strategy for decentralization and access to art and artistic practice.
Finally, we wish to remind all Tunisian citizens,
in need of art, emotion, madness, originality,
of connection, of dream, of reflection…
that they have the RIGHT to art and culture
and that they have a DUTY to claim it!
We firmly believe that a society
without a strong cultural project,
inclusive and equitable, cannot evolve.
